Strengthening Energy Ties: Minister Dipak Khadka Meets Chinese Ambassador Chen Song

Kathmandu, August 4, 2024 – In a significant move to reinforce bilateral relations, Nepal’s Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, met with His Excellency, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song. The meeting, held at the Minister’s office in Singha Durbar, underscored the commitment of both nations to enhance collaboration in the energy sector and promote economic development.

During the discussions, Ambassador Song emphasized China’s unwavering support for Nepal’s energy sector, recognizing its critical role in the country’s development. He expressed optimism about the current government’s ability to drive progress, given its formation through the cooperation of Nepal’s two major political parties.

Minister Khadka extended his gratitude for China’s assistance in reopening border points during the COVID-19 pandemic, which are vital for trade and connectivity. “As an elected representative from a district bordering China, I am hopeful that measures will be taken to facilitate cross-border movement for the people living in these areas,” he remarked.

Highlighting the need for grant-based support over loans, Minister Khadka articulated Nepal’s preference for aid that does not burden the nation with debt. He also noted China’s remarkable advancements in social, economic, and technological fields, expressing Nepal’s desire to follow a similar developmental trajectory.
